How costly is a wheel bearing install?

 It just started today on my drive home, so the acurance at which it happens I am still trying to figure out. But what I know so far is:

1. Mainly happens when the car is not in gear and is just coasting at lower speeds.
2. Also happens when in 1st gear, but only when decreasing speed(lets say 15mph and under).
3. It happens at the same point in the wheels rotation. So, the faster I am going when it is making the noise, the more constint it sounds.(at 1-2 mph(hardly rolling) you can hear it then it goes away till the spot comes back around.
4. I just installed Koni yellows and ground controls, and everything is tight and good to go! Installed 2 weeks ago.
5. When accelerating, I am unable at this point to tell if it is making the noise or not.
6. Also, when slowing down(not in gear) the sound goes away when I turn to the right(Pretty sure when I turn right, I guess it takes stress off the right rear hub?).

I have never had to replace or deal with a wheel bearing, so I am not even sure this is related to it.

I work with S2kRyan(aka S2 cryin ) So, tomorrow we are gonna look at it when its slow(hopefully)

Hoping(for knowledges sake of course  ) that someone has delt with this before.

Will update this thread with any infomation I come to and/or fixes that follow.

Thanks, Matt

if its a metallic type rotational scraping sound, its very possible, its the wheel bearing. when i was coming back home from chicago after my wedding, my 03 did this about 300 miles into the trip. about 700 miles into the trip, it started to make a horrible groaning sound at lower speeding, and when i say horrible, it was too much!!

the day after i got back to va beach, i had honda do the retorque, and it went completely away. after 400 miles, a wierd pop started to occur when taking right turns at slow speeds. i'm pretty sure the hub and bearing were farked up from that long trip, and it was too late. but the retorque definitley did fix the rotational noise.

i bought the new hub and bearing, but went back to chicago for transfer leave and ended up trading it in, so never got around to fixing it. good luck!!

Hmm, thanks Pete!

I think that sounds about right. Shoot, I wont be able to get to Honda or Custom car care for a few days...Ryan is only working a few hours tomorrow as its his bday. Wonder if I could do it myself?

Oh yea, How much did the bearing/hub cost you??

I just had mine done. You definitely had the same thing - I had exactly the same symptoms.

Not only was the bearing and hub blown, the CV boot blew grease all over.

The bearing should be about 80, and the hub should be around 100.

Ive replaced both of mine... actually the dealer did under my extended warranty (FTW)

Hmmm, O-turn said the car had 20k miles left on an extened warranty when i bought it fromh him...I will be making some calls for sure now! I wasn't sure that this would be covered or not, but wow I hope so!

I did the removal/install myself with the exception of pressing them in/out. The shop charged me $100 to press in/out both. I forget what HTG charges for the parts.

I taught the manager of the dealership how to fly. I might have been a special case. ;)
