Default live in md, but buying used car in VA (help)

I would like to buy a car (accord of course) in VA from a private seller this weekend. He says he has the titles in hand. Is there anything special I should know about buying in VA and bringing back to MD to title? What do I use for tags, and will I need to find a notary?

I know it's not S2000 related but I figured many people in Mid-A have done this before. The good news is my wife and I are having a son and I don't have to sell the S.

I appreciate the help

Memory is fuzzy on this--been about years since I bought a VA car. The car I bought was historic, so some rules may not apply to you. But this will get you started.

You will need the title in hand to get Maryland tags. To get hard tags, you need an inspection certificate. You have to complete the sale first to get the title (or have the guy fax you the title before you buy, but this is unlikely).

You will pay sales tax in Maryland, along with the othe usual fees, when you register the vehicle.

I do not recall using a notary any step of the way.

Good luck with your purchase.

as long as he signs the title(s) over to you, you will be ok. just take them to a local tag and title service place and they will be able to take care of your tax, tag and title work. before you do any of this you will need to get the car MD state inspected. you can go to the local dmv where they can give you a temp tag for 30 (or 60) days so that you have a tag to put on the car to drive it around to get it inspected. once you have the inspection certificate in your hand you are good to go with taking it to the title place

good luck.
