Need help!! Maryland state inspection
NEED HELP!!! I purchased a s2000 out of state and it has all the windows tinted. I really don't want to remove it in order to pass inspection. Does anyone in Maryland know of a shop that will hook a brother up?
According to your profile, you have a 2002 model. You qualify for historic tags in Maryland. Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) does not require a safety inspection when registering as historic, even if the vehicle was previously registered in another state. Therefore, if you go this route, you do not need to take off your tint. Find a local tags and title office, pay the extra fees and you can bypass sitting at MVA waiting to get your car registered.
Unless Maryland is specifically different from other states historical tags are great if you never intend to drive the car other than in parades.
Vehicle has to be historical, not merely old, meaning it needs to be original which didn't include aftermarket parts or window tint.
Why call even more attention to yourself than the S2000 already does? Window tint is just another excuse for cops having a slow day to pull you over after which they can go on a fishing expedition and cite your exhaust and other modifications.

Historic tags in Maryland means you are not supposed to use your vehicle for daily transportation. But in the slightest of all slightest chances you were to get pulled over merely because of the tags, you can simply state you were driving it for maintenance purposes (going to get an oil change, alignment, brakes, etc.).
I have yet to hear of any fellow enthusiasts to get stopped because they were driving with historic tags.
By the way, I have three cars with historic tags. No issues in 15 years, knock on wood..........

Such an odd rule as scripted and really doesn't make much sense (it does not roll over, ie. 20 years or older). What's even worse is that they doubled up on the inspection fees simultaneously. I had to turn my Historic tags shortly after receiving them because of this new rule.
