For those with aftermarket exhausts...
 

This question is mainly for No. VA commuters/drivers with aftermarket exhaust systems...I was just wondering if you guys have had problems with police officers pulling you over for your "illegal exhaust"...

i live in woodbridge, but commute to Fairfax/chantilly area on a daily basis and really want to get an aftermarket exhaust for my car...but with all of the stories i've been reading about police officers pulling over people with aftermarket exhausts and some towing their cars, i'm on the fence whether or not to go through with the mod or not...

So for those aftermarket exhaust, if you can chime in and share your stories, that'll be greatly appreciated...also, if you can suggest something stock looking and sounding that'll be great...

I'm located in Roanoke Virginia, and have the Invidia exhaust system on MY01. The cops around here aren't too bad about illegal exhaust unless you go through Vinton, but in NOVA I have no idea. If I was you I'd say get the exhaust. For one the ticket is only $25, well $77 with processing, but you can always put silencers in the exhaust, and I've never had any problems with the silencers in the exhaust. Hope I can be some help.

it's just the luck of the draw... some cops are dicks and they'll pull you over, other cops won't even notice it....

yeah but with my luck, the cops will be waiting for me every morning as i leave my driveway...:rev:

i was pulled with my Invidia...i was keeping the noise down on purpose because i saw him following. i had the silencers in. he pulled me on rt. 50 right before the ramp for rt. 28 (probably out of his 'zone'). he said my exhaust LOOKED aftermarket...didn't even say a word about sound. then on the ticket he wrote something about sound, and i asked him about the 5-7 choppers firing up at the Damons right next to us. he told me those were stock :rev:

went to court to fight it. judge asked me if i had gotten it taken care of. i said i had. he didn't ask for proof or anything and dismissed it right there (as he did with 5 others before me from the same cop, who stood there and said nothing). i had gotten another exhaust by that time, but could have been lying for all he knew. it was pretty obvious that he didn't really care.

Jenkins was the name of the cop...he has been known to be a dick in the area and has pulled several other import owners on this board and others. other than that, haven't really heard of a problem. the whole time i was in traffic court, i only heard an exhaust ticket from 1 other cop...

Well I'm not from NOVA, but if any of you all ever come to Roanoke, watch out for Officer Austin, he's a ass hole, gave me 4 exhaust tickets on my RX-7 and it wasn't even loud, so far he has only given me one for my S2000 and I have the Invidia, which is like 5 times louder than the exhaust on my RX-7. So just watch out for the ass hole if you ever come through these parts.
