Help Buying S2K (Wichita)
Hi guys. I'm moving to Wichita, KS in about a month and looking for a new car. What do you guys think about this?
https://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/4563723206.html
Owner says he doesn't know how many previous owners there have been since he bought it from a friend who is now deployed. He says it uses a quart of oil every 1500 miles (oil burning?). Claims no mechanical problems and will do a compression test. What's a good price and anything else I should look for? This will be my first manual car so it's a little difficult for me to test the shifter.

The S2000 probably isn't the best car for learning how to drive a stick (just my opinion), but here's some info on what to look for when buying a used S2000.

I believe I have seen this car around a few times. If this is not it, there is another silver/red for sale in Wichita.
The one I have seen looked ok. It was all stock so that is a bonus. Interior appeared fairly clean aside from the seats. Exterior was fairly clean as well, aside from some fitment issues with the bumpers and fogged headlights.
I think his asking price is high for the mileage, but it still seemed like a decent car.

Fusionworks seems to know these cars pretty well. Not sure if they really do inspections though, you'd just have to call and ask them.
I know they'd do a compression and leakdown.

Ray at Fusionworks would be a good resource to tell you the condition of the car. They'll do whatever inspection you want them to do, but realize you'll pay for it. But, it could be the best $100 you'll spend on a car. To me that's really cheap insurance to make sure you're buying a good car.
I love Honda manual transmissions! I think it's a great car to learn on. When you get to Wichita, hit me up 316-218-2084. We'll have to go for a spin and grab a beer on me.
If the car was perfect and low miles, and you wanted all stock; maybe. But, to me $12,700 seems kind of high. The car looks like it has a few dings and has a fair amount of miles on it. If you wait, you can find a better deal. You could probably pay the same amount and get a bunch of mods, or get a stock car for less. The way I found my 2nd s2000 was I made a list of the mods I wanted and made a budget. I kept looking for one until I found one with the mods and budget I set. It took me a little while, but I was able to get a really good deal and buy basically the exact car I would have built myself (if I had a ton of money to throw at it). These are awesome cars and have a following of really great people. Good Luck!!!

Second the pre-purchase inspection. Be sure to qualify with the mechanic what the PPI entails; for some reason each mechanic I have visited for this (purchasing non-local) has held different opinions for what should be inspected. Coming from a state that had required inspections to license (Maryland), these served as a great/cheap PPI.
Have you checked out the S2KI for sale section? I have a low mileage MY2000 Stewie which is in NW Arkansas (2hr to Wichita) and seems to be in your price range.
