This time it was swapping the transmission. My original has very worn synchros as well as other wear issues. 2-3 and 3-4 shifts on track had to be babied a lot to avoid grinding. I found a used one in better shape and swapped them out. So I just own the two transmissions right now

I plan to tear down the old one and see what I need to rebuild it assuming I can still even get the parts. I am pretty sure I have a way to get some of what I need, but if gears are too worn or damaged then she is done since you cannot get the gears any longer.

Crazy how used to having a worn out transmission you get. Besides the grind issue, it had gotten noisier and noisier over time (likely just aging bearings) and it is a LOT better driving it with the new ones. Did a quick test drive nearby on hwy 50 Monday night and then we drove it up to Bates City area on back roads last night and ran it through some high rpm shifts and all is good again.

Yeah it is easy to get used to driving with transmission issues. The transmission in the M3 I have been trying to restore for three years now was so jacked up the shifter was stuck all the way to the right and wouldn't center. The shifting detents we seized up basically. Common problem on the E36 BMW that used MTF oil rather than the ATF like the former cars. Basically to replace those you have to pull the transmission. After doing all that and replacing everything while I was in there, it was like brand new again. What a difference.

If you are bored you can check out my build thread. The car basically baked in the Texas sun for it's life. So anything rubber was crumbling away and needed replaced.

I forgot to mention that I saw a silver S2000 the other day at the SafeLite Auto Glass parking lot in Lee's Summit. Not sure if it was an employee car or a customer car. Anyone on these boards?

Was it a bone stock, super clean AP1? If so, may be a guy here in Lone Jack. If you saw the driver and thought "Santa is driving an S2k!" then it very likely was him Super nice guy and does dress up as Santa for stuff here in town at Christmas !

I could barely see it as it was mostly behind another car when I was driving by. Barely caught the tail end for a second.

Spent a week without driving the car with all the rain but I have been driving around town the last two evenings. A good 4 hours of driving with the top down in the cold nights. The heater in this car is on another level and feels like you could cook a chicken buy putting it in the footwell of the car. I just cannot get over how much enjoyment I get out of the S2000. It is by far my favorite car I have driven in over a decade.

Many years ago I took mine out topless in 12 degree weather. The heater did just fine. It was incredible.

Now? For the most part 60 degrees is the minimum. I am getting old and don't have the youthful tolerance anymore.

I wanted to go for a drive on lunch with the top down but the wind chill showed 31 degrees. I decided against it.

The wind this week has been nuts. But, typical when the temp changes this time of year here. A couple of days this week I completely gave up on my normal run. Running straight into 40 mph winds is not fun
