Default Want to Autocross for the first time...

I don't want to look like an idiot. I've never autocrossed before and I've only had the S for a little over a year and haven't really driven it to the limits. Not sure about the local autocross rules / locations / etc...

Someone want to help me out??

Have you ever been to one just to watch? I actually did that a few times just to get a feel for how things work.

The only way you will look like an idiot is if you go there your first time thinking you know everything and thinking you will get FTD...(been there done that...LOL)

No, I haven't. I guess I'll start with that.

I'm also very interested in going to a driving school in the area. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I'd be happy to help out too! I'll be at the Crown Event this weekend if you're coming out... If the weather is nice, I'll be in my 300ZXTT, but shoot me a PM and I can give you my # and I can meet up with ya at KS Speedway!

I had never been to an event nor seen one. I went to the EVO school recently and for about the first 20 min I was confused then it all made sense very quickly. I would recommend signing up for the 3rd heat and working both the first and second, you will see how some of the good drivers attach the course. My biggest problem was trying to figure out when to run. If you can remember one person in your group just watch them and you will be able to keep up.

Driving tips:

Forget about fist gear, I found that going into second right after the line dropped 3 seconds off my time on a 35-40 second course.

Try to visualize the course in the car before you run. Even draw a map when you walk the course if it helps.

Focus on smooth driving not going fast

When you are driving physically look at least one obstacle ahead of the one you are heading towards. This will allow you to pick the correct lines without having to think about it. Unlike road racing you do not have much time to think about the best lines to take. To help me I talk myself through the entire course while driving as if I was a co driver coaching a driver.

Come out to the next crown event on May 18th and ride along with me. Crown is more laid back than SCCA. I usually finish in the middle of the pack so i don't take it real serious however I have a great time . Going on my 3rd year. Send me a PM and I will give u my phone #.

TraviS2000

The SCCA Kansas City Region has an Autocross this Sunday. Event site is Parking Lot "L" at Arrowhead and the first heat starts at 10:00 am

I will be co-driving with my friend in his Audi S-4 in Heat 1. But there are a number of S2000's that are driving in the 3 heat event. Heat 2 will probably start about noon - and Heat 3 about 2:30 or so.

The weather looks like it is going to be great this Sunday. Be a good day to come out and watch one of these. I will be there about 8:30 am so I can do a course walk and get the car ready to run in the first heat.

I will be happy to show you around and will introduce you to some of the S2000 drivers. Also, we will see if we can get you a ride with a couple of drivers.
