Default 1 ounce Gold........ Krugerrand or US Eagle?

First of all, I'm not much of a speculator.

I do not own individual stocks, just a handful of mutual funds and I do not subscribe to the "Sky is Falling Buy Gold!" crowd.

But I've always wanted to own 1 ounce of Gold. Anyone here have insight on what to buy?

The South African Krugerrand 1 ounce?

or US Eagle? 1 ounce?

BTW, I heard that throughout time, the value of 1 ounce of gold has always been roughly equal to a good business suit, so I'm not looking to owning gold shares or anything like that.

That caught my eye too. Way shinier, unless it's the picture.

The Krugerrand is alloyed with copper, whereas the US Eagle is, I believe, alloyed with silver; that would account for the difference in color. As for the reflectivity, perhaps the Krugerrand dies are more polished.

Alloy? Can you explain?

For the Today price $651.16, I thought they'd be a 1 pure ounce of Gold.
