Bitcoin
Anyone uses them?
The value keeps going up and up and up.. Impressive! |
stupid investment for anyone to put a substantial amount in. I have put money in that I was willing to essentially gamble with. Made a good amount very quickly. Sold quickly as well. I think i stayed in my position for less than 2 months. Very happy I left.
All the coins are too volatile IMO |
$100 of bitcoin in 2010 is worth over 4 million dollars today

I still have to wonder how much capital I have to throw at compute (and power and HVAC) in order to *hope* to mine enough coin to pay for the compute, power, and HVAC to mine the coin.
. . . also, ignore the fact that the price is dictated entirely by the faith of people who want, or worse, need, non-sovereign currencies. I think I'd rather just get into something less shady, like payday loans. |

I mined it a few years ago back when it was worth around $800. I made about 6, then sold off a few, and have been holding/day trading it since then. I knew of it back when it was worth $5 and lamented about how useless it was. Did the same thing at $23, 100, 200...I'm fairly confident there is tons more ceiling space to its price. I'm investing small amounts periodically, and day trading with some of it. I've doubled my money in a couple months. If you know what you're doing you can really make a profit, but you have to be willing to lose everything at a moments notice. I've already paid off my initial mining investment so I'm in the black now. If it all crashes, it would suck, but I will still end up even. It has been fun watching its progress, and I think we're still just at the beginning.

Current value a bit unstable.. https://www.coindesk.com/price/ |
My understanding is attempting to mine it today without custom ASIC hardware is a complete waste of time. China has basically taken over the mining.

I don't get bitcoin, was a good investment (apparently) years ago.
At $4,300/share, I've apparently missed the boat. I don't understand the mining process, read a lot about it. I'm apparently and officially an old man. at the risk of sounding like my grandfather, $4,300 can buy a nice amount of shares in a sturdy stock/mutual fund with decent dividends. |
