Obama just spend TWO BILLION dollars on his trip to Mumbai. TWO billion.
No he didn't. This is a number that Mike Huckabee was tossing about, but it's absurd. If you look into it you'll see that it is unsubstantiated (for example, he claimed that 34 US warships - 10% of the entire US fleet - were stationed off the Indian coast; that's ridiculous).

Before you suggest that I'm an Obama apologist, understand that I'm a registered Republican, didn't vote for Obama, and think that most of his policies will do a lot more harm than good. But this $2 billion claim is just silly.

[QUOTE=magician,Nov 6 2010, 12:54 PM] All I said is that the claim that the U.S. government cannot legally print money is wrong.

Wow, way to split hairs magician. I don't think he knew that income taxes were illegal.
I'm not sure what you believe is hairsplitting, but that's OK.

The $2B is certainly overblown, and we definitely shouldn't cite such dubious numbers.
Wow! We agree on something!

There's no question however that Obama is throwing our money away (ya, what's new right?).
If you continue to find positions on which we agree, I'm calling for a psych consult. Or a DNA test to make sure that you're really still you.

Of course, Obama is all talk.
What politician isn't? You cannot convince me that you're surprised.

Ya, you got me figured out.. I guess I continue to be amazed at the BS that comes out of his mouth (I'm a libertarian/independent for the record). There are some presidents who are less than useless, but at least have the decency to not go parading around on talk shows and news shows spreading bs, and then there's obama. I guess I'm just a wee bit pissed off these days. When the republicans actually balance the budget (rather than campaigning on it), I'll be a little less pissed off.

They're not.

That's a specious argument that's been tried and found wanting multiple times.

Sorry.
You are incorrect. Article 1 section 10. To paraphrase, no money can be printed without gold backing.

Did you write the check? I didn't think so. Facts are facts. He took 3000 people with him. I don't know the number, but I would not be surprised if he spent hundreds and hundreds of millions on this trip.

I strongly suggest you dump your stock gold and buy physical gold and silver.

Magician, one more thing. Both printing money and income taxes are illegal. What makes them "legal" is that a man in power one day decided that it IS ok, and did it. 1913. Before that, there was no such thing. You worked hard, earned your money, and lived the American dream. Now, you work hard, make your money, and your government makes it worthless. Again, I lived through it. Most of you are getting a first taste of this.
