I use tradeking. I like it, low cost, easy and you get 50 bucks when you sign up. Shooting you a PM.

If you only have $1,000, I would try in this alternative investment in peer to peer lending. I opened an account in december with $300 and already I am yielding 7.82%. I screenshotted my account for proof: Investing in lending club

If you are like me, you can choose the safest AAA investments. I bought $300 worth of notes and already I received $17 back. So Im sure you can still be safe with $1,000.

Good Luck

+1 for Lending Club.

I have been investing since Feb 2012 and yielding ~13% annually.

I was interested in this until I saw this: https://www.creditkarma.com/reviews/...personal-loans

What concerns me about the reviews is LC approves and funds the loan, then cancels it for various reasons. As a potential investor, I want my money to come in at the end, after the applicant is approved. Sounds like a take-the-money-and-run. Yes, there are a few people who got approved for the loan and it actually went through, but there are many more than experienced issues after LC "approved" their loan.

I'm holding steady at 8% on a portfolio I put together this year. I am not a fan of those...clubs. Either speak with a true pro, or wager a bit yourself. If you want secure return with minimal risk...shop around for a long term CD.

Curious what the OP did. If he stuck to his instinct, and bought (F)ord at $10.85 that day, he'd have about 90 shares. At recent closing prices of around $17.25, he'd be up right about 50% and have just over $1500 for his next position.
