Taxes from OLD state lived in.
I moved to NC over a year ago but I still had taxes taken out and allotted to CT! For only ~150 bucks. As I didn't live there I think I would be entitled to it all back NO? Though sadly this is going to likely require my submitting a CT tax return correct?
If I can get it all back it's obviously worth dropping the extra few bucks to file the return. Just a PITA. |
If taxes were withheld for a past year in a state that you lived in for less than half the year, you can file a return and get the money back.
If, however, you deducted (itemized) those taxes from your federal return in the year you paid them, you will have to declare the taxes you get back as income in the year you get the refund check. If you did NOT deduct them, you just get the $150 free and clear. It will probably be a pain in the butt, but most likely you are entitled to the money. |
Deducted? Who "deducted" the CT state tax? Only thing I can think of was it was your employer and he told you about it every week or two when he paid you.
