i'm not sure how i feel about the fed, using all of our money as taxpayers, to selectively bailing out certain firms they believe to be too interconnected to fail w/o causing disastrous consequences. perhaps in hindsight we'll see that as what prevented the second depression. or perhaps it will just be temporarily delaying the inevitable for another administration to deal with. as it is, fannie and freddie are really just in a holding pattern until the next admin decides what to do with them.

AIG however, will only fail if the fed has no other options, which I don't think is yet the case. If AIG is rescued, that safety net will be reduced substantially. I like your choices though.

By the way, goldman had a great quarter.

Out of context you are dead on, but in context compared to its competitors GS is unarguably on their game, at least right now. They were hardcore on the oil trade, I wonder how much conviction they had on that one.
