Ethenol in our gas?
 

So if you don't know, ethanol is now in our gas at some percentage or another. The problem with it is that it breaks down faster then gas and can cause serious problems with small engines or engines that aren't being run often.

I don't run My "S" for weeks at a time and I know I'm not the only one, so what kind of problems can people like me expect? Should I be putting in Sta-Bil in my gas tank at every fill up???

What are your thoughts about this wonderful, (NOT), new fuel additive that looks like it's here to stay?

My gas doesn't sit in the tank for more than a few days so I never gave it much thought. :shrug:

The car seems to have just as much power for what thats worth.

We Sta-bil all our gas in the motorcycles. Smaller quantities of gas seem to break down faster, clog jets, cause problems. If your car is going to sit for a couple weeks, Sta-bil wont hurt.

Well my experience in my motorcycle, which is carbureted, even with
Sta-Bil in it for storage over the winter, this :censored: gas seized up
the needle in the carb so when I started it in the spring, it was pissing
fuel everywhere.

I had to pay the mechanic to pull the carb apart and replace the needles.

If you have carbs and the vehicle is going to sit for a long period of time,
put Sta-Bil in, run it through the system the DRAIN the carbs. This will
keep the CRAP fuel from sitting on the needles and seizing them up.

I have no idea how it will infect (not a typo) fuel-injected cars. I have
stored my S with a full tank with Sta-Bil and haven't had an issue. Of
course, this was with the 10% ethanol fuel. As they start to increase the
ethanol, who knows.

Mark, when you do that, do you just fill the tank, then shut the gas off at the valve and then drain the carburator bowl or let it run dry?

I run it dry then drain the carbs.

I would have thought running it dry would have removed all the fuel,
including from the carbs, but there is enough left in there to F**K up
the needles.

thats what I thought. So, I should probably loosen the drain on the bowls too to let it all out. Good idea.
