Default Hondata IMG Advise...

Ok, so I planned on installing a Hondata IMG (sitting in garage) this winter, but am now a bit skeptical. I thought this would be a good install while my car is in hibernation, but now it seems that people are having coolant leaks after 12K + miles. I've also found some mixed messages in regards to putting a hole in the gasket to provide coolant to the IACV and throttle body, but doesn't this defeat the purpose of the gasket? What do you think? Anyone with this mod in New England?

The installation effort is the one thing keeping me from doing this. I know someone who has one cheap because he bought it and never installed his!

My rational is also supported by the fact that I will also be doing the Mugen cooling mods i.e. thermostat, fan switch, radiator cap. I guess I'm still wondering on putting a hole in the gasket.

Josh,

This is what Scott suggested for me, instead of Hondata, according to him, its better quality.

I normally stock them .

But One thing that is good is to spray them with Copper gasket spray or the put a thin coat of RTV . Also I recommend retightening it once the motor gets to operating temp .....

Thanks guys, but I already have the manifold from Hondata. Scott, should I still spray the hondata with copper spray and what about the covering of the coolant line?

Yes spray it , it will help seal it

If you drive the car in the frigid winter months then Yes drill it . You wont see all the benefits hp wise from the gasket . But it will insure your TB does not freeze on you .

If it is only a warm weather car , then there is no need to drill it .

Somewhere, on "the other site" there is a thread that explains how to re-route the cooling lines to stop coolant from going into the throttle body. Trouble is, I can't fine the thread over there. Maybe I need to be a member to see their tech tips section.

I remember seeing one sometime ago. I believe they just shoved a ball bearing in the line that was sized perfectly to block coolant flow.
