Default Laptop: new or used?

OK, I sold my current laptop for a rediculously high price on ebay because it is a panasonic toughbook with touchscreen which I guess is a hot item

I need to have a laptop vs. desktop for several reasons.

I basically use it for surfing and writing reports for school. No gaming or heavy entertainment requirment.

I found a decent laptop at Besbuy for $425 which lets me pocket like $200 after selling the old laptop and buying new.

I am wondering if any one here has an old (not ancient) laptop in decent condition that they want to get rid of cheap before I take the plunge. Doesn't have to be pretty, just need to work good be semi-up to date.

The other alternative which got my attention was getting a UMPC, but the 4g hard drives scare me and the 7" screen is kinda small, bu the portability is stunning.

Did you mod the current laptop when you bought it and are you stripping all the mods from it now? Once you sell it, will you miss it and buy another just like it?

Nah, I have had it for a while, it's time to go. These toughbooks are great, but overkill for the casual user. Even one with kids

Actually if you not in a hurry than watch the clearance ones at best buy, you can walk out with a killer deal if your patient. I picked up a gateway with a 17" widescreen has 3 gigs ram an pentium core 2 duo , 300 gig hd and vista premium for the whopping price of $400 a few months ago.

I am going to go to bestbuy tomorrow and see if there are any in the clearance area, if not, I will just take the $425 Toshiba I saw online. Heck, I will get a couple reward points for it anyway.
