Default Red Arrow Streetlight

So there is a new wrinkle on my way home. They've installed a set of lights that are arrows only. I see no sign that prohibits a right turn on red, but the design of the signal being a right arrow is confusing. Last night I stopped and then went through, as well as the car behind me. So what's legal? Anyone know for sure? I don't need a ticket from someone just pulling an opinion out their butt. Thanks.

No sign = turn allowed after coming to a complete stop and it is safe to do so.

You can also turn left on red from a one way onto another one way if there is no sign.

I'm inclined to think a red arrow pointing right would prohibit right on red. It a light specifically for a turning lane?

Then don't turn on it.

The law says you can, not that you have to. Although the people behind you may be pissed.

dave, I can only speak for MA.

But, I would bet that *most* states follow the same rules because the Feds like that and give extra money to states that get on board with the program.

Ok, thanks! We have had a proliferation of those arrows lately and since I got my license 1978 before they started using them up here I wasnt sure. I vote the state mails out all licensed drivers updates on laws pertaining to new things like this yearly How else do we know if were breaking a law or not? Its not like they make us take follow up courses yearly.
