Default Should I get a radar detector?

I was debating with a friend this weekend about wether radar detector is still worth it. We're not talking laser jammer (or my EZPass ya goobers), just a run of the mill radar/laser detector....

His argument was that most police/state officers are using laser these days so for the most part your luck at getting a "save" is far far reduced. When you're hit, you're hit and that's it. And.. if they don't have laser now, as time goes on they will all eventually be laser. Now.. he doesn't even OWN a detector so I don't know how much truth there is to this statement.

I understand that 1 or 2 saves will make up the cost, but still he does seem to have a valid point.

So my question is... in your exp. in New England (the MA 128/495 loops & NH Route 3/I93 are of interest to me) what have you been seeing?

The more I travel, alot lately, the more I LOVE mine They are not a guarantee but used with a little common sense they sure do give you an edge.

Except when Mike and I caravan together, we seem to attract sirens

I have an Escort Passport 9500.

I could talk with you about this all day and do NOT want to post a novel.

Short answer yes but remember it's only a tool. Also, it is a radar/laser detector not a cop detector.

Do not skimp out on the purchase or you might as well have none at all. The false security will do more harm than good.

Ask me about this topic next time we are at a meet together and I'll talk your ear off.

Here is my take on this.

I think they are worth it, but I would not spend over 200$ on one. If the cop is using Laser you are screwed no matter what. I have a 150$ belltronics detector.

It is alright, i have gotton 2 speeding tickets with it though. Both cases the cop had laser and the second the detector went off I was screwed. I was also the only car on the road so i had no chance to pick up the signal off another car. I dont think any radar detector is going to save you from laser. It is just going to let you know that he got you and your screwed, but maybe im wrong?

On the other hand if the cop is using radar it may save you, or if there is a decent amount of traffic on the road. up here in goffstown/manchester alot of the cops have radar and they practically drive around with it turned on so its easy to tell when a copy is coming in the other direction.

I would say in mass most cops have lasar, at least from my experience, but in NH I would say its mostly Radar. Except at the Tolls, they shoot you with lasar.

I would recommend buying a cheaper one but dont let it replace your judgement when it comes to speeding.

Does anyone else still flash their lights at cars coming towards you after you see a speed trap??

That was big in the 80s and I still do it. I learned this from my mom

But NOT very many people ever warn me and I wonder if that's something that is just not as popular anymore?

Us speeders gotta stick together
