Default ASR Super Lap Round 5 coverage

Here is a thread for this weekend's ASR Super Lap Battle Round 5. I was amazed that 6 S2000s had shown up for this event. There are quite a few really good pictures of the group that the "photographer" is waiting to look at, edit and post. Seeing such a good S2000 turn out has made us interested in having a private S2000 Invitational type of timed event next year some time. I am going to explore the possibilities of creating such an event. The track is cheap to rent and it would be an awesome track day with good preparation and some compromising with the majority of people as far as a date goes.

*More Pictures to come* (but if you have any you want to share post 'em up)

Here is a quote from nmrado - !!The new S2000 record holder for counter clockwise!!
ASR was awesome yesterday. The weather was perfect for fast times and comfortable lapping. For those who haven't been to ASR, it is a flat track with relatively fast straights (~108 to 110 mph on the back straight and ~90 mph on the main straight), tight and slow twisty sections, and some tricky bumps to master/avoid. Diving into the carousel at over 100 mph is thrilling.

The superlap challenge was fun. Going into the timed portion, class B was lead by a 2JZ powered Lexus (1:2?), followed by Clint (1:22.3) and then myself (1:22.5). The 2 hot laps of the challenge worked out well for me and I was able to crank out a 1:18.9 best lap. The track temperature had been consistently increasing, which helped with tire adhesion and the lack of a passenger during the hot laps was a noticeable improvement from the practice sessions and meant that I was finally able to hit ~109 mph on the back straight. - nmrado

There is still one in November. There were 2 dates in the original post. October 29th and the November date. You should definitely come out!!!

Cropped & flipped video from open lapping after the Super Lap challenge. Big fail on my behalf for screwing up my video attempts. For some reason my remote start/stop button triggered the "stop" about 2 seconds into my Super Lap runs....would have been nice to see those laps.

After thinking about the Super Lap classing a bit more, I think S2000s should be classed in A-Class. Other people were referencing their uncorrected whp and estimated weight for their cars. If that's how they intend classing to work, here are the numbers for my car -

Stock whp, uncorrected: 165 whp, ~65 deg F at 5500 ft elevation, 201 whp corrected for sea level
Weight in race trim: 2650 lb, weighed on brand new Longacre Racing scales

Since my initial dyno, I have added a header, high-flow cat, and made a custom intake. With the very minor tuning that you can do with an AP1, my guess is that I'm making _maybe_ 10 whp more than I was in stock trim. Also, if you account for the elevation difference of Deming, NM, there is another 5% theoretical power increase (4350 ft vs 5500 ft). So, let's assume 184 whp for my setup.

2650/184 = 14.4, which would be A-class

The Lexus SC claimed 365 whp, uncorrected and 3750 lb. That weight seems high by about 150 lb, per a Google search.

3750/365 = 10.3, which would be B-class

Not bitching...just thinking out loud.

I completely agree with you. You are the only B class driver that has ever gotten that close to the Lexus.

He used to run in class C against Tim's Evo who gets 1:13XX and after realizing he would never have the chance to win in C, he "detuned" his SC for B class. Same car as C, nitrous, meth, and 500 HP....or 375 I mean. But I am proud to run as good as I have in a car that makes less than half the power. You should be proud that you almost shut him down with the same low horsepower. The S2000 is about as close to the bottom of B as you can get.
