Default Bear mountain & Harriman State Park at night?

Has anyone driven the roads around Bear Mountain and Harriman State Park at night? I've been watching a lot of Initial D lately and I've got an itch for some night time twisties. I'm thinking Kanawauke Rd, Arden Valley Rd, and Tiorati Brook Rd in particular. Are the roads open at night? Any risk of hikers, bikers, or deer? Cops?

Deer is always a possibility but bikers and hikers won’t be around for the most part. There isn’t a huge presence of police but they are around so just keep that in mind and have fun out there. Always a good time. 7 lakes drive is a favorite of mine. Pitch black.

A few weeks ago I was on County Rd 106 at night. I was coming around a corner right where 17A & County Rd 106 meet, when I almost hit a f*cking bear that was crossing the street, walking upright on its hind legs. If I would've hit that thing, it would've ended up in my lap and I would've been screwed. My friend behind me in his M3 yelled over the radio "WTF WAS THAT?" He thought it was a bigfoot. LOL

My advice to you- go during the day. Run your route nice & slow once, just to make sure there are no cyclists on it, then have some fun.

Oh- I also saw a bear on the walking along the side of the road as I was exiting the Warwick drive-in theater last summer. This one was on all fours though. Have to be careful.

I actually just went last night and it was a blast, though I couldn't get over the fear of hitting a deer. You can't see shit ahead of you. Now that you tell me bears are also a risk I probably won't be back at night again.

County Rd 106 (Kanawauke Rd) was a fantastic drive and worth the 45 minute drive it took for me to get there. The night time twisties definitely scratched the Initial D itch.

How often do cops patrol those roads? I have to imagine there are always people racing down them so it'd be ripe for police.

Next time you decide to go again -whether day or night- post up on here if you feel like bringing some company with you. I posted this back in April- https://www.s2ki.com/forums/new-york...-runs-1183797/

I've run those routes a thousand times and the only spots I've seen cops, are where the towns begin and the speed limit suddenly drops to 30mph. Its like they're trying to catch people who don't realize they're entering a town and have to slow down. It happened to me once. I was living in Queens at the time and had to drive alllll the way to Tuxedo NY just to fight the ticket. Sucked.

That's good to hear about the cops. They must be aware of how people drive on those roads so it sounds like they let people have fun in the mom residential area.

I'll definitely hit up that thread next time. It would have been nice to have company. I actually saw you post that originally but our twins were ~3 months old at that time and I wasn't really able to get out and drive. Now they're a few months older and their sleep schedule is more predictable, so I can usually leave my place in Edgewater NJ at around 8pm.

Tuxedo is the worst. I think we all have horror stories from there with tickets back in the day.
