Towed with the wheels on the ground. Not good. Get it checked as towing this way will damage the drive train. (I'm guessing the differential.)

Years ago my RX-7 was stolen, same story, found in Newark.
Mine however was stripped of the interior, wheels, etc. Engine/trans was intact.
To add insult to injury the police yard charged me $400 to get it back
for storage fees. Took about 3 months for the Mazda Dealer to get all
the parts and put it back together.

Towing with the wheels on the ground does not hurt the differential.

The transmission oil pump is also diff-driven, so it will not harm the transmission either.

From my owners manual:
The only way you can safely tow
your vehicle is with flat-bed
equipment.
The operator will load
your vehicle on the back of a truck.
Any other method of towing will
damage the drive system. When you
contact the towing agency, inform
them a flat-bed is required.
2006 owners manual page 191.

Rarely see stolen cars recovered. Glad to see you'll be getting it back. Hope they didn't do too much damage to it.

Bill re-engineered the tct. I'll trust him on this one. and guessing from his response, one could only assume the pickup is towards the back of the trans.
