Had a Discussion With a Friend About NY Style Pizzas... Am I Wrong?
I kept telling my friend that the "Slice" originated from NYC and the slices sold in NYC are sneaker sized long! He says they're thin and short. Who's right???

joes pizza right off of bleecker and 6th is one of those places that you *have* to try.. ray's pizza imo is overrated, but they do give you HUGE slices. i think i know what kinda slice youre friend is referring to, and i feel bad for him. it sounds like he got jipped into buying a cheapy slice. i'd say that the average slice is about the size of a sheet of 8.5x11 paper (minus the obvious edges).
my top 3 are Jack's Pizza in bayterrace (only because this was the first pizza place i can recollect), gloria's in flushing, and joe's in manhattan. but i know that there are hundreds if not thousands of great pizzarias all over the metropolitan new york area.

The pies are usually range from 14" to 18" in diameter for a large. Cut into slices I guess a slice would be about 7" to 9". Not sure if a slice originated in NYC. But I would think it's an American thing, since you can't order a slice in Italy.

BTW Patsy's Pizza in Brooklyn is considered one of the best pizza places in New York. It is now named Grimaldi's. There is also a Patsy's in Manhattan (East Harlem) that is very good (opened in 1932). There is a little history behind the name change but that's NY Lore.

Joe's has good pizza. I used to work near Joe's and was always there for lunch. Any one know a good place on the Upper West Side for pizza? La Traviata on 67th isn't bad but I've had better.

Pizzas are cut into 8 slices. So depending the size of the pizza, would determine the size of the slice. NY pizza 9 times out of 10 is a stadard what? 12" radius, so they are pretty big.
