Exactly my point. Why lower your selection of cars when a set of good snow tires will make any car good in the snow.

If I where buying a daily driver I would just go buy a Hyundai and order a winter tire and wheel package from tire rack. I have rented a hyundai a few times to go down to NC. It's really not a bad car it was good on gas plenty of power and handled well. IMO a front wheel drive car is the best thing in the winter months. If the conditions are so bad that you need all wheel drive to get around then you should probably not be driving anyway. Not to mention in our area even when we get hammered with snow the reality is the roads are clear by the next day.

Great point. If you can't get around in FWD you probably don't have any business being out in the first place. If you are good at modulating the throttle and finessing braking you can do very well in FWD.

BTW they are introducing a FWD RDX this year for less money and better MPG than she SH-AWD version.

We had a 330xi with performance tires, terrible in the snow.

Then had a 325ci (RWD) with snow tires, amazing in the snow, 10x better than the 330xi.

The 330xi with snows would have been amazing. However, the disadvantage of AWD (in most cases) didn't seem seem worth it to me just for 5-10 days of bad snow a year.

That being said, I'd look for something more "fun". How about the Mazdaspeed 3?

i was looking for cars for myself and i found this.
a little expensive but so sexy.

im in the same boat as you.
im undecided on what to get.

i want AWD (plan on driving up to vermont couple times a winter, and other mountains)
i want a truck but nothing is really doing it for me with the exception of th Q5 but thats loot. the cherokee is nice, but im not feeling it like i was originally.

i hate trying to figure out what kinda car to get next.

[QUOTE=gofast182,Nov 5 2009, 01:34 PM] Subaru doesn't do torque vectoring and at this point neither does Quattro (although I hear its in the works).

As of now, nothing can beat audi / subaru AWD -- it's just a known fact

It's also why we own 2 subaru's...upstate NY winters can be, uh, interesting
