July 16 & 17 - S2000s at Watkins Glen with SCDA
We are going back to Watkins Glen with SCDA for the 6th year in a row and as always I am looking forward to participation from Metro.
In the years past, we've had a fair share of members from Metro join our posse for Watkins Glen. ChefS2000 did his first track day at Watkins Glen and was so hooked he went back there twice again the same year. Billman came out to instruct in 2016. In 2015 we had Kamil and Eddie join us too. Last year, Rico joined us and enjoyed the experience very much.
So if you're attending the NYST Takeover, and you like what you've tried OR even otherwise if you just have the urge you should come to Watkins Glen. Here are some reasons:
- Set in the Finger Lakes wine country. Get there on the weekend and make it a romantic getaway with your plus one
- Watkins Glen has history and is the only American road course that has hosted most rounds of the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix. The village is full of racing history with the who's who from the world of racing having walked down Franklin Street.
- The section from Turn 2 to the Bus Stop is over a mile of acceleration and you will likely see the highest on-track speed ever in your car.
- SCDA organizes a great event and provides 4 hours of track time over two days. With four 30 minute sessions per day, you won't lack for excitement or track time.

If you have any questions, you can feel free to post it here or on the Upstate thread and someone will answer.
ROLLBARS: This topic often comes up. Every year I've fielded inquiries about whether or not a rollbar is needed. The simple answer is if you are a novice or someone that has just been signed off to solo, and you dont have a rollbar, you should be fine. SCDA will say on their website that a rollbar is needed (for insurance reasons), but I've personally done events with them with no rollbar as have others. You can always email them and ask them about their rollbar policy.
Rates: SCDA has a code set up that can be used to register on their website for a discounted price. The pricing is below
One Day (Monday or Tuesday) Rate: $389.00 (Discounted Rate: $350.1 with a 10% discount)
Two Day Event Rate: $719.00 (Discounted Rate: $669 with a $50 discount)
Open the spoiler to view the code and register.

Again, if you have questions, please feel free to ask and I'm hoping to see Chef and Rico back at Watkins, possibly Billman too (if his schedule permits) and whoever else wants to come out and experience a true diamond in the rough of a race track.

I've done this Watkins Glen event for six years running. Except for brake pads, stock S2000. No roll bar. That's me in the picture (Berlina). I run with the top up to avoid any broomstick issues.
Already have on my calendar. Will sign up for sure.

Hmm, might be interested in this depending on work schedule. I've never run with SCDA before but I ran HPDE3 with NASA. Can I run intermediate/advanced solo or do I need to start from the bottom?

EDIT: they may also have someone do a checkout ride to have you go solo.

Every event has a photographer taking pics in case you want to get a print of you hustling up the esses or outbraking someone at the bus stop.
