I put it on a lift but I couldn't find anything, I'm going with the assumption that the plate is up top when mounted on the car

No problem

For the f20 the ap2 tranny is the better combo to have so hopefully that's what u have

The engine plate is on the rear side of the cylinder head, just above where the transmission bolts into.

The transmission plate is on the passenger side, just where it connects to the engine.

I managed to find the transmission plate guys I have an AP2 tranny. As for the engine plate I haven't bothered looking for it, but I know for sure the valve cover is F20C. Do I need a mirror or something of the like in order to see the engine plate?

Takes a boat load of effort to swap AP1 and AP2 engines 'cuz you need sensors, ECU, etc. Gearbox swap is basically some bolts.

VIN shows what engine should be in the car as does the tachometer.

I'll have to take a look to see if PO just swapped the valve cover but the valve cover is 100% an F20's.

Welcome to the boards

What year is that car? I dont know the owner, never seen that car before and I'm from the area. Dealer can't tell you anything unless one of the techs is a big s2000 fan or owns one.

If that's an AP1 car, he did a lot of work to make it look like an AP2.

How many miles?

it's definitely an ap2, it just has an ap1 motor. I just wanted to know what has been done to the car so I'm not hit with surprises as I get parts and they don't fit or whatnot. It's a 2004 with 80k miles

So far I have identified mishimoto rad, c.f. cowl, c.f. tower brace, greddy dual exhaust, ap1 motor, some aftermarket intake, and custom sound system. Don't think there's much more, but I would definitely like to know if there is. Also I'm not so sure what's up with the fuel rail it doesn't have the FPR where I'm used to seeing it.

If you post the engine serial number someone here will be able to tell you what year the engine is out of. Same for the VIN which has some more data in it that shows, for example, the plant (pre '06 for sure), and Canadian or USDM (these cars are known to cross the border).
