Default Mechanic Needed - Not S2000

Our 1998 Honda Accord has been giving us grief lately. We bought the car used from a friend-of-a-friend who lived in Brooklyn. So, yeah it's a city car.
The car has served us very well for the past two years. Before purchasing the car, I had read that certain 1998-2000 Honda accords had transmission issues. So, I was always on the lookout. We thought we got lucky with this one.

Anyway,
The car is a 1998 Honda Accord 4-door V6 Automatic.
I've been quoted prices ranging from $1500-2000.
This is a bit much for us, since we're looking for a house, and I hope to have enough leftover to do some mods on the S2K.

I know Billman is the man when is comes to cars, but I'm not sure this is his area of interest. The closer to us the better. We live in Hackensack, NJ.

Please PM me with contact info., and we'll discuss the details.
Or, if you know of anyone just leave their info. here.

Thank you!!

I think HONDA may have extended the warranty on those since it was a known issue. Have you checked?

Pretty sure they didn't. There's actually an Owner-made petition online about this trans problem.

Plus, my car has 130k+ miles
