Default Moving to Long Island...help!

Hi fella' NYS2K'ers!

I haven't been on the board for a while but, today, I accepted a job offer in New York. I will be working in Freeport, in Nassau County. I have been looking on the internet for an apartment/house to rent but, frankly, the pictures they display online could be quite deceiving.

If there are any of you that live in the area, and that would be willing to extend a hand, I would appreciate it. I am looking for the following:

- 30 minutes max. drive to Freeport
- accept pets (30 lb. cat has to come with me... )
- MUST have a garage (the Z06 deserves love)

Or...if anyone is looking for a roommate...look no further! I am clean, tidy, can cook.

I want to spend $ 1,000 or so...I realize it is expensive but don't want to throw too much money until I get to know the area better so I can buy a house in 2006 hopefully.

I really, really appreciate your help guys. I am VERY new to NY and it will be a drastic change coming from Kansas. I quit my job 10 days ago and am fortunate to have found something very good up there. My start date is Jan 31st...still got lots to do here .....

Thanks!!!

Angel

Hey Z06-KILLR. Glad to hear you're making the change to NY. We have a ton of LI guys up on the forum here that can help you find what you're looking for. I remember a few months back when I was searching for an S2k and saw yours for sale but the only problem was that you were in Kansas as I didn't want to travel that far! But the Z06 looks sweet tho! Definately bring it to a meet or something once you get things settled. Any plans on getting another S?

Welcome to the area! Freeport is very easy to get to (Meadowbrook, Southern State, Sunrise Highway, I believe all take you to the area) and since you aren't really heading toward NYC, it'll be a relatively easy commute most of the time.

Not sure about housing, so not really helping, but there are plenty of brokers and agents in the area. If you want, I'll flip open the yellow pages for you.

I miss the S....but then I drive the Z06 and I forget about it... Right now though, if I could have it my way, I would sell my Z06 and get an S. I am going to be paranoid about my car up there...I have seen the way you people drive : I will fit right in though..hehehe

I think $ 1000-1500 can get me what I am looking for but I would rather have some feedback of people that live there...feedback on the area, the location, etc.

I am VERY new up there so I will try to get a hold of as many people as I can so I can get to know some of you...my cat is good company but he can't carry a conversation...

...and this is the only thing left out of my S2000....

1000 bucks is going to be real tight if you want a garage, but I will see what I can find for you.

Welcome Neighbor!
Lucky and I live in Long Beach, just a few exits away. I am in Freeport all the time due to my Job. Lots a great old houses there, but just make sure you are looking way SOUTH of Merrick Rd if you want to live there. I would suggest Long Beach to live, great beach, great resturant bar scene, tons of singles, lots to do, but it is pricey. If you share a place you can get something really nice for 1k each. Or you may be able to find a studio. I have a friend in RE here if you want her number.

Freeport also has a great night spot, called the nautical mile. Casino boat trips, lots of bars and resturants too.

Let me know if you need any more 411

Monique's cat used to be 32lbs. I put him on a diet and he's about half that now.

Oceanside, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, and parts of Valley Stream have some very nice areas in them. They are all around Freeport. Parts of Freeport itself are somewhat slummy... as luckysgal noted.

You will have to make the trip here and check those places out ...

My daughter is looking for a apt. mate in Valley Stream, but there is no garage and she already has two cats !!
