What is the first picture accually of? and where is it in the engine?

I explained in detail what the PIC! was....It's the underside of the broken retainer...

Wow BIll -- that was some keen shootin pardner !!! You got great eyes, know where to look, and what to look for (this time I am talking about cars, not females) !!!

I think I may be pulling my valve cover this weekend to sneak a peek . I don't want to get stuck in Western Pa. !!

You cant really tell without actually removing the retainers themselves if you have a very small crack. Jacko's was rather large in size so it can be spotted by using a small mirror like dentists use. Having the retainers just begin to crack, you just wont be able to notice it without removal of the retainers themselves.

Looks like I might just sit in your passenger seat though Jacko. I'm starting to do what goes against one of my sayings- "Dont rush or you'll it up." I really shouldn't be rushing my car to finish, so I think if your car is ready for FC, I'd rather ride shotty than blow $19k in work.

Pic of the underside of the rocker. Notice the two arrow marks pointing away from the roller, marks made by the retainer. The retainer also made a mark in the secondary (VTEC) rorker as well.

I'd host a retainer inspection tech day, but I'm so booked not sure it can happen...
