Questions abt USDM headlight clearing...
Hi all,
Just figured I would ask my local S2000 brothers and sisters about clearing USDM AP1 headlights since I am a new S2000 owner.
First, after you take them apart and insert the clear lense then silicone them together and close them up. Do they actually have to look as horrible as these with the silicon sealant all over the place? Or can you actually do a nice clean job and have them still seal properly with no moisture issues?...

Also anyone planning to have a tech day or a head light clearing day anytime in the future?
Thanks!
Will

You could always pull the headlights out and send them to "w1ngman" on the forum with your diffusers and he will bake them, install the new clear diffusers, and send them back to you for a fee.

I did my own, and I posted pics in the gallery a while ago. It isn't difficult to do a neat job. I must say, out of all the headlights i cleared though, including evo, suby, amd vw, the s2k's were the most difficult to get apart; the stock sealant was a mother@#$@#.

I also did my headlights not to long ago. They were defiantly a bitch to get open. You really need to warm them up to turn the silicone to a sticky goo. It takes some patience and a lot of cursing but you'll get it.
As for a clean job...we got no silicone anywhere except in the ridges where it should go. We took our time and you honestly wouldn't know that it was opened unless I told you.

I have opened about 20 of our headlights, just take your time in prying them apart, don't feel like you have to pull the housing apart after one heating. If needed, do a portion of it, then warm it again to loosen the factory sealant, then take it out and finish it.
If you want the re-seal to be clean, you have to scrape most of the old sealant off the shell and back housing before re-sealing them.
