Ticketed for no front plate in NYC - will photo of remedy cancel the fine ?
Got pulled over to the side right before entering the QMT leaving Manhattan, by a cop directing slow-moving traffic. Gave me a ticket and in the description box, he wrote "no front plate".
1) Looking at the back of the ticket, not sure which fine category this falls into - is this an "equipment violation" or "most other violations"? 2) Can the fine be cancelled by pleading not guilty and sending in a photo showing the front plate on the car? If not, I'll probably just get it over with and plead guilty and send in the money. Thanks! |

To answer your question:
1. This is an equipment violation, there is no points to this ticket. 2. It depends the area, NYC tickets are harder to beat, always has been. I would try that first, but you may have to go in and fight it |

Ask Tony Also, remember the front plate ticket I got on the bear mountain drive. Found not gulty of the crime |
When I was replying I said to myself this doesn't really answer the question.
It is an equipment violation however dismissal of any charges in any case are always subject to the whim of the individual in charge of the presiding authority. on any given day. In New York you will plead your case at the Dept. Of Finance if that tells you anything. At any rate you are better off taking a day off from work and going down in person to plead your case rather than sending in a photo. My time is worth more than 65 bucks a day. |
Thanks guys... I was just trying to get a handle on how much of a pain in the ass it is to have the ticket dismissed by just sending in a photo, from a ticket given in Manhattan. If it was just a matter of sending in a photo and not having to go in (I'm in Suffolk County), I would have gone this route. However, it looks like I'll probably just pay the $98 (not $65 for me) and get it over with. Agree, my time and driving into the city are worth more than $98 (and getting off the hook is not a guarantee even then).

Who's to say you didn't just mount the plate and take a picture - after getting the ticket? That wouldn't sway anyone anyhow. Better to pay the fine.

:iagree: Picture does not mean anything. Could have been taken before the plate was removed or like example above.
