Transmission repair shop
First off, Happy new year dudes! My dads 03 MDX is giving him problems. The suv is drivable but from what I noticed, it has a slipping issue. This seems to be a common problem with Hondas/acuras from 2000-2004? The Mdx has about 150k miles at the moment. Is it better to have this transmission repaired or should I look into buying a used transmission from a newer mdx? Also, does anyone know of a transmission specialist in metro?

Hmm, has the tranny fluid ever been swapped?
When doing the MDX tranny fluid, you can only drain 3 qts. at a time. It holds 9 qts. IIRC.
After 50K miles I started swapping 3 qts of tranny fluid with every oil change in an attempt to avoid what you father is going through.

it was a known issue and my in-laws car had the transmission replaced early in its life. but the issue is occurring yet again. They were quoted a few grand to fix it by a shop here in NJ. i think it was 3-4k maybe more? honestly i suggested to them that they should just get rid of the car and trade it in before the whole thing just fails. i think in the long run its better to get rid of it now before throwing a crazy amount of money into repairs. just my .2 cents

Transmission fluid and diff fluid was changed recently after he noticed the suv was a little hesitant. He purchased the car form an auction with around 120k miles, I told him not to but he thought it was a great deal. As far as selling it, I don't know what it's worth in its current condition or who would even buy it.

id use it as a trade in, it might be a myth but suddenly changing the trans oil if it hasnt been changed in a long time might actually do it more harm than good. or so i hear.

Don't think a used transmission will be worth it, since this is a known issue throughout the entire run.
Some people had success with a local transmission shop, but others have taken it to the dealer and shelled out 4-7k for a new transmission and torque converter.
