VA 1...me 1

Well I decided to do my own Valve adjustment today on my day off.

Round 1...VA was the winner. I took apart everything and I thought I did everything right. Reassembled the valve cover, changed the oil, and turned the engine on....loud clicking noise. After a little while I realized I had mixed up the clearences making the intake clearences the exhausts and vise versa :banghead:.

Round 2...I am the winner. I took apart the engine AGAIN (doh) and this time I came out on top. I turned it on again after doing everything again and no more loud clicking...just the normal valvetrain noise.

Now on to my question.

My car is louder(?!) after the VA. Pretty much all the valves were over tightened so by loosening them to the correct (I think) spec will that make the engine a tad bit louder? I was thinking the exhaust valves are now opening more, making it louder.

When I say louder I mean the exhaust (especially) and the intake seems to growl some more. The engine itself sounds like a sewing machine, like it always has. I'm not to worried becuase I'm nearly sure I did it perfect.

Any ideas?

overtightening should not have hurt anything that I can think of unless you tightened them way way way tighter. But if you reverse the specs I can't think of why they would be louder.

If you took out the LMA's from the head, you would have a loud ticking noise but you didn't do that...

Overtightening on the other hand may cause valves to not fully seat and you'll get burned valves overtime.

overtightening of the exhaust valves can allow some of the still burning fuel/air mixture to enter into the exhaust manifold and cause more exhaust noise...

Yeah I went back and did it a third time :p. All good now, the exhaust is quieter and the power feels great. I still have a little tick tick tick noise but I figure thats just the engine. Come mod day, I'll have bill listen to it so I can stop worrying :D
