Hi I am going to be going to NYC soon. I want to know what is the driving experience in the City? My car is lowered and i am afraid the potholes going to take off my fenders. and should i keep it r sell it before i head to NYC from CA? Looking for NYC residents or anyone's advice.

Get a garage. I drove in NYC about 2 years ago with an Odyssey and didn't have any problems. The roads do get torn up by the winter weather there. If you don't have to drive in Manhattan, then don't, it's crazy and the drivers are usually belligerent, but not all. I've seen Miatas and other sports cars and roadsters there. Parking is a real trick - sometimes you have to park blocks away from where you want to be.

If you're moving into Manhattan, it's kind of pointless to have a car. You can get around everywhere without it and if you use a parking garage it's going to be a fortune. If it's any of the other boroughs I'd probably say keep it and then make the decision.

Big move for you, I hear the west coast is where its at. All my friends love it out there.

Manhattan has no parking so you will need a garage if your moving there. But it would suck to make a big move out here and then sell your car. That would suck and you wouldn't have any fun.

Its really bad in some areas of NYC

Nyc roads and bridges area are a complete train wreck. Billions of dollars in toll money surely doesnt get used to fix the roads. Stay in cali, if you want to enjoy the roads. We do however take a road trip every year just for nice roads.

Which borough within NYC?

As everyone mentioned, the roads are pretty bad, lights or stop signs on every block, lots of people and traffic almost all the time.

Our mayor is not a fan of people owning cars in NYC, he finds it pointless given our mass transit system. We have had lanes reduces from 3 to 2 or 2 to 1 (some for bike lanes, traffic monitoring, etc).

It will be expensive and difficult to maintain a clean car here, but not impossible.
