9/29 Rensselaer-Columbia Drive
As some people will be off at Fall Crawl during the first week of October, and as later in October may not work for me, I've decided to run the Rensselaer-Columbia drive on 9/29/12.
Join in as we go about driving some fun backroads and stop for a wine tasting and then lunch in the Hudson Area.
LOCATION FOR START: PARKING LOT OF HANNAFORD SUPER MARKET
3703 NY Highway 43, West Sand Lake, NY 12196
START TIME: 10:30 AM (Please plan to arrive at least by 10:15 AM)
Meet-up Location Info: I'm attaching two pictures for you from Google Maps. When coming from the West on Rte 43, you need to go past the Rte.150 Intersection and Hannaford will be on your right. See the images below.
PLAN OF ACTION:
- Start drive at 10:30 AM from the parking lot of the Hannaford Super Market in West Sand Lake.
- Drive East on Rte 43 and do a loop back to the W. Sand Lake Area via Tabby Rd and the Town of Poestenkill.
- Drive Southwards towards Route 9J with some detours for some curves
- Stay on 9J and drive past the scenic views of the Hudson
- Left on Rte 46A and onto Rte. 9 and yet another detour towards Rte. 9H.
- Stop at the Hudson-Chatham Winery (we are stopping there even if one person in the group wants to go)
- Leave the winery and do a mini loop to stop for lunch at Coyote Flaco near Hudson.
- Depending on the mood of people, either follow 9J and some fun roads back to the East Greenbush area OR
- Follow Rte. 9 at a gentle pace with a possible stop in Kinderhook, NY at the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site
- Stop off at Panera Bread in the East Greenbush area for coffee and conversation
I can't commit to how much time the drive will take. If we started at 10:30 and made absolutely no stops, I'd estimate that we would be back in Rensselaer by 2:00 PM. But as we may stop at the vineyard and will definitely stop for lunch, I expect us to return between 3:30 and 4:30 PM.
I wanted to make a mention even though all of you are aware. This is not a race or a time trial. All rules of the road including speed limits and passing zones will apply. Lets keep the shiny side up and be respectful of fellow attendees as well as other traffic, pedestrians and children on bikes.
