Default All things Formula 1 (Spoiler alert may contain race results)

Just thought I would start a topic for Formula One. It's that time again! With the first race this weekend, can spring be far behind? Looking out side, probably not. But it is nice in Australia.

It should be an interesting year. So far in the testing sessions Red Bull and Lotus with Renault has sucked while Mercedes has stood out. Ferrari has been pretty much treading water. (How long can Alonso and Raikkonen coexist) OK, it starts getting "real" in about a half hour when practice starts. I will work to tend to this topic, maybe add some memories and stories of the old days of the Watkins Glen Grand Prix and other races of the time.

Lets drop the green flag on a new year! Ops, I mean red lights.

Harry - will this include spoilers (race results etc.)??

If yes, then we must include a spoiler warning in the title.

In the past we have kept talk of F1 out of this forum for the reason that I would post up results of quali or the race. Some people did not like it so I refrain from posting F1 stuff here. Don't see why that should remain the case. I would love to talk F1 here.

Yes we should look at making sure we don't let the cat out of the bag as far as immediate results. I was looking more to discuss schedules, nerdy tech stuff and stories of yesteryear. A spoiler alert would probably still be warranted.

New engine sound still to grow on me. I only saw FP1 but DVR'ed the other shows after that. Nice to see nbc really go the extra mile to bring us some f1 content for the season opener. There is the interview with Vettel, will buxton's visit to Ferrari in addition to the regular season opener panel discussion between the commentators.

Exhaust sounds like a rusty mufflered Chevy Cavalier with a plug wire off.

Not a fan of how the new engines sound as well. The reduced rev limit this year isn't helping the sound any either.

The onboard sounds remind me of the generic motor sound effects you'd hear in an old NES game...

Anyway, I'm hoping that we get to see something other than SV and RB dominating the races this season.

The new engine sounds do not give the sense of throttle input or engine output. Kind of like watching a Led Zepplin video with the sound of Billy Joel playing Piano Man. It is confusing.

The other side is that these engines are torque monsters. We will see a lot more black patches of rear rubber on the circuits this year.

I think qualifying yesterday was great. Stayed up past 3 am to watch it.

Liked how weather had a role to play and happy with how the grid formed up.
