Coming to the Finger Lakes
So,
I'm coming to the Finger Lakes. We'll be up tomorrow, heading to Watkins Glen for an afternoon arrival. The Wife wants to see the Corning Museum on the way up. We're headed back to NJ on Sunday.
We planned this literally a few weeks ago. Then, earlier this week, the weather predictions were horrible. Now, they look really good. High 60s to Low 70s, slight chance of rain.
The Vintage group gave a few ideas, but I figure I'd finally ask the locals.
I think we're planning on just some drives, wineries, waterfalls and photography. I don't think we're going to have a real formal agenda, just get up, head out, and go from there. Anything in particular this weekend that's unusual?
Is there anything super special in the area that is an absolute must. A road that's just a little better than the rest, a restaurant a little nicer, or something. I realize it's a real late request. So, any help appreciated.
Thanks! Gary

Well, I'm not exactly from the area, but
There is the Glen state park right downtown. You can drive the Old Course, Get a map - public roads. The north-south roads west and the east side of the lake are nice, west is better, me thinks. Visit the Seneca Lodge. Harbor House Hotel and a restaurant right next to it both have lakeside dining. For the visit to Corning Glass Works, the road between Corning and the Race Track is better than going through Montour Falls.

From Watkins, drive up the west side of Seneca lake. Scenic drive, and several more vineyards than the east side of the lake. Not sure where you are staying, but we typically do dinner at the Harbor Hotel. Nice place, right in Watkins Glen near the water. The park is also super beautiful and has some seriously scenic hiking trails. That being said, the weather in the area is historically volatile, so just be prepared.

I've driven the Glen already. Pretty sure that if we're doing some light hiking, it'll be at WGSP or one of the gorges near Ithaca to see some scenery.
As for the weather. I think I was there for a track day in early May and we woke to snow for the morning sessions.
We're packing a very odd mix of things, but hoping for the best.
Thanks all- I'm sure I'll check later when we get up there too.

If you like wine and beer, there are some great places to check out in the area. Some of my personal favorites are McGregor's, Wagner, Lamoreaux Landing, Heron Hill, Keuka Lake Vineyards, and Keuka Brewing Company.

Thanks all.
Plenty of winery stops, and very brief stops at WGSP, Taughannock SP, Buttermilk Falls SF, plus Montour Falls for some photography.
Unfortunately, we didn't do much more than a few very brief hikes considering the time we had available.

The bar at the Seneca, $1 drafts and incredible racing memorabilia on display.
They had an old video of James Hunt dancing on the bar and in the corner there's a piano that Cevert used to play.
(at least they did 9 yrs ago)
