I have been buying Uniden models for years and have always been happy, but I'm sure some magazine must have done a test of these things recently.
I wonder about mounting on the front window when the power plug is in-between the two seats. Sure seems like some costume wiring might be needed so the wire does not stretch across the cabin.
What have others done?

There was a post about the valentine detector, and the wiring....looked fairly simple..plus all wiring was concealed..they mounted it by the rear view mirror... One question, I thought I read some where that it protects you from radar..front and rear detection...?

I've hard-wired my V1 as per the FAQ. Very clean and easy.

And, if you're really gonna speed, the V1 is the ONLY way to go. The rest of them pale by comparison and the front/rear arrows are invaluable. However, if you're gonna speed and spend the money for a detector, you have to be willing to play the game. If the damn detector goes off, you MUST hit the brakes - hard and immediately. You also need to be actively looking for cops. If you're not going to do this, don't bother spending the money for even a cheap detector.
