GVC BMW CCA Autox Dates
#11
I've done a few BMW/Porsche events in the past. I was helping Mike Budinski when he first took over the program. They are a lot of fun. I'd like to do more, but this year's SCCA schedule is very full. I have 8 local points events, at least 2 out of region points events, the Northeast Divisionals, 2 National Tour events, and Nationals on my list this year!

In many ways my personal objective for 2005 is to try and get some of these guys to come out to some BMW autox events so they can spend some time with us and allow us to gleen from their experiences.
I may also be able to not worry about wearing out the rears this year since I've got a pair of 265/45s already and I hope to talk Holtz Acura into a set of 245's also. With these Kumho Excsta 710s Mark will be eating my dust (I know that pavement gets dusty!). Especially with him running old-tech Hoosiers...

Keep in mind this crazy first date - April 17, Sunday at BIMP. If there is no snow it could be a great activity because we are assuming it will be one of the very first events for many of the regions/groups around here. So put in into your schedules now...

Heh - snow tires could be fastest.
At the first SCCA event last year, it was cold and very rainy. I had brand new, full-depth Kumhos which I figgered would be a good solution. Those who brought their street tires and changed to them ran considerably faster. Dave was beating the pants off the rest of us so I asked him what he did to which he replied that he just slowed down to allow the tires to bite. I found out AFTER the event he had his street tires on. I was able to take 1st by slowing myself down (not so aggressive) but was WAY behind on PAX index due to the other classes running streets.
Moral: Slow down to go faster. And adapt to conditions to maximize traction and speed...

That was the first instance that I experienced where street tires were better than R-compounds.
