OEM wheels
Any suggestions on where to get new OEM wheels for an AP1? I have looked into refinishing them and it is around 100 a tire. Most of what I found online is around 140-160 not including the cap, and install. I am guessing that is standard price, just seeing if anybody has found better.

Maybe this will help:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/upstate-.../#post24587003 My recommendation is to scour the forums and see if someone has a set in clean shape they’re willing to sell as opposed to buying brand new. On that topic, why not get AP2 or CR wheels. Will be easier to find tires for them. I think choice is limited for the 16s |
Reviews here indicate there are also excellent reproduction AP2V1 wheels available which offer the greater tire selection of 17" wheels and drop onto the car without any modifications or re-calibrations since the lower profile tires are the same diameter of the 16" tires.
Save your original wheels in the unlikely event these cars achieve collector status. ;) -- Chuck |
I just purchased the car last week, and they have 2 new tires, and 2 in very good shape, but the wheels are mediocre. I would prefer to stay Ap1 OEM, that are in great shape, but I will likely refinish, if I don’t find what I would like quickly.

There are (or should be!) wheel refinishing shops in all metro areas. The 17" AP2V1 reproductions are less than $600 a complete set. These cars pretty much demand matched tires on all corners to hand well and you're in need of tires soon. Spending your money ;) I'd get a set of these wheels and some Max Performance summer tires and just put them on the car. Store the original wheels in the shed for your widow to offer them to a collector looking for that perfect non-face lift car.
