Default Time for a new daily car?

Long story short, I've been getting bugged by a continuous clicking sound since the last month or so. Had this issue before too. Last time it was the left drive shaft that was replaced. Prior to that it was the rear main seal. In any case I keep running into this older tech from the local dealer at a local Stewarts (convenience store) and in conversation, he said to bring my car in and he would get it fixed under warranty. Dropped the car off yesterday and they ordered the parts and had it fixed by this afternoon.

Still have drivetrain warranty on the car that is set to expire next May. But this repair should be covered for another year from todays date. Love the car and enjoy it still. But these failures are somewhat worrying - at best minor inconveniences and at worst a potential outflow of cash once the warranty ends.

So I'm thinking - Do I need a new car? Nothing out there in my range excites me and the ones I like (BRZ/FR-S or Miata) are not daily driveable. Also do I really need the burden of more debt. Relatively debt-free and would just like to stay that way.

What would you do if you were in my shoes and had a car that had all this work done under warranty? For purposes of this hypothetical situation, bear in mind that you enjoy the car each time you are driving it.

Aashish, I assume this is the Civic? What doe you expect with track day and autocross abuse? I'd keep the car and buy an extended warranty. If you decide to sell, let me know.

Jeff - the Civic has never been autocrossed. Although it has been on track, I am not sure if that constitutes abuse.

I too am considering a new beater, on my list are a certified preowned Civic Si coupe or Accord coupe. The current beater is approaching 190k miles and still is running good but is starting to rust out, which will be just cause to fail inspections and I'm not going to spend significant money to do body work on a 14 year old car.

But I don't want yet another car that I'm going to feel the need to clean frequently since its going to sit for most of the summer so even those might be more than I want to spend.

^ Mark - keep in mind that the Civic Si coupe comes with a manual. Are you ok with stick shift all through the year?

If I had Keeler nearby, I'd probably still have a Cooper S

Even keep it beyond warranty? I know you have the skills and all you need is availability of parts.

I had a o2 sensor crap. Drove to Keeler and had it replaced under warranty.
The new one crapped. They replaced it again as the o2 heater died.
3rd one shit. I asked them to send one given the same code. NFW!
Bummed, I flipped the car for a R32

Miss the mini in many ways.

Find a used WRX. it's fast in the dry and acts like a drift car in the snow.
Oh yeah!
