More reliability...

My 1990 CRX-Si was used at the track for 10-years, it has about 8,000 to 9,000 track miles on it, plus 1-year of autox and the only issue I ever had other than maintenance was a real wheel bearing, and that car was always on track tires which increases the loads through the car greatly because of the extra grip

Now I will admit, my S2000 was not as reliable with track work as the CRX-Si but still, once I replaced a bad part the problem was taken care of

That really sucks about the rust being an inspection issue, I'm not aware NY has such a law but I know other states do like PA

I agree with ya, if I was in your shoes I too would be unwilling to dump money into body work because I swear the saying is true, rust never dies

And I have to say, what a crap situation, you have a good car, you are still happy with it, and yet you are forced into a decision just because of body rust, so sorry to hear you have to deal with that

On the upside though, as you don't mind an auto tranny for the daily driver this gives you a much wider selection of cars to choose from

WTH?? You can drive with no seat belts but you can't drive a rust bucket

That reminds me, I forgot to unbuckle my seatbelt once I got to New Hampshire. I thought it'd be cool to try that but with the pouring rain and poor visibility, I forgot.

If it were just me, I'd drive it until my inspection guy would no longer throw a sticker on it like he does now.

But, the girlfriend has hinted that I should get something else and I agree with her so when we go somewhere nice or to her family's house or something like that when the S is in storage we are in something a little nicer and not a rust bucket.

So, any ideas? Again remember the car will sit in the driveway for 6 months and I don't want anything I have to spend lots of time maintaining.

What size car is too big, and what's too small? accord size is about right, would go smaller like a Civic
How important is MPG in this decision, what kind of range do you want to be in? would like something at least in the low 30s highway
Would you accept a manual? No, want a slushbox for winter driving
What other priorities do you have for this vehicle? #1 priority is excellent in the snow

Thanks Doug for your insight. Marc also made a great point and that kind of reinforced what I've been thinking as well. I am thankful to Jeff(s), Levi and all for their opinions too.

The car has been paid for. Any expenses would possibly not be as high as a full year of car payments.

Worst case, I can possibly find a used old car to drive.

There is quite a bit of sentiment I have for this car. It is the first brand new car that I've purchased and somehow I've always seen it as staying with me. There are days when I regret getting rid of my old Accord, and if this car went away I think I will miss it a lot more.

Maybe someday I can turn it into a full race car or maybe preserve it to pass it on to my children.

Aashish, I would think if you keep all your records and show that this driveshaft issue has been an ongoing thing, that you would be able to get it covered even when the car goes out of warranty because clearly they haven't fixed the problem while it was under warranty.
