I can remember that for a couple years back in the 60's NY didn't have a front plate.

Was that back when they had the older blue and gold plates for the state?

Yep! Would love to have one!

I drove an X1/9 with an intercooled turbo rotary, about 300hp and 1700lbs. Was a beast! This would be a more practical, reliable street monster.

What are the members here using 16 inch rims running for tires?
What is on my car now: Hankook Ventus V4ES, 205 55 16 front and 225 50 16 rear.
The rear tires are near the end of their life and will need replacement soon. Fronts are 50% plus for tread. These tires have lasted a long time, a look at my log would tell just how long, and are very good in the rain.
Looking around there doesn't seem to be anything with more grip in 16 inch. Is my only option for more grip to move to a larger rim diameter?

I went with the Firestone Indy 500s. Bought my low-mileage AP1 a year ago in VA, and the tires that were on it were so old that I didn’t dare drive it back to NY. I was skeptical about Firestones, but these were the only option available locally that had good reviews, so I gave them a shot. I’ve been very pleased with them so far. I don’t have anything to compare it to on this car, obviously. But it may be worth you doing a little research on the other S2k people who’ve used them. When I did, I found a bunch of happy customers!

Also, it depends on what you’re using the car for. The Indys are great for ripping around on the streets. Good grip. Reasonably comfortable ride. Not excessively noisy. Decent treadwear for a performance tire. Plus, they look good and are budget friendly. They meet my needs very well. But if you’re going to track it, you may want something more hardcore.

Firestones are a good option Rich. Unless you want to find a set of used AP2 wheels and upgrade.
