What am I getting for my money?
My membership recently expired. I'm debating whether to renew it or not.
When I belonged to the Fiat site I did not hesitate to send $20 every year. That site was not a commercial venture though. It was operated strictly with private donations from a very small group.
S2KI has a fair amount of vendor and advertising support and appears to be a for profit venture. The only thing I appear to lose by being a guest is the ability to post pictures. Nice feature, but not entirely necessary.
Thoughts?

I know membership for me is based upon
- ability to post images as well as store them for any web usage
- an act of gratitude for the great people I have met and the amazing things I have learned
- it helps support the organization as a whole because I do not believe Erik (cthree) is rolling in money...

I think $20 ($.055 a day) is well worth being able to have this site as a resource for S owners.
I get lot's of info. , meet great people and get alot more than the $20 bucks costs me.
So why not support the site? If I pay I'm allowing you as a non-member a free ride to all this info. but I guess thats why there's people on welfare too, which I as a tax payer pay for.
I do play the lottery each week so I guess I'm looking for a free ride also.
To each there own.

I agree that I've received more than $20 worth of information from this site. And I agree that it's not a lot of money. According to the bottom of the forums page it states that there are almost 33,000 members. If that's true, at $20+ a head and additional income from vendors/advertisers, I justed had to "say hmmm..."
That said, I've renewed anyway. I'm a little surprised that there was no renewal notification sent. I only found out about my lapse in membership when I couldn't access my photo albums.

This all started when the site was threatened with extinction due to lack of funding. Donations were asked for and many of us gave without hesitation. I think it was a big mistake to call it "membership". It should have been called "donator". Nothing has changed except for the terminology. They gave a few perks to show appreciation to those who contributed money. You can't blame the management if this site has gotten so large and popular that vendors simply want to pay money to get their wares noticed and people want to "belong" in a more significant way. If this is what you want, then pay. If not, then don't. I never looked at it like, "What's in it for me". I did it to keep the site going. If you see it different then that's your perogative. We can't really tell you "What's in it for you".
