Lots of choices and opinions out there on this subject
Hankook R-S3 gets my vote
The performance/price relationship is really hard to beat
I have gone through several sets of the R-S2 and am now running the R-S3's, and that's because I'm just so impressed with this brand
They offer amazing performance in the dry, and actually are very good in the wet as long as they are not nearly bald
I also put the Hankook Dynapro RF_10 All-Terrain Tires in LT-Series on my Frontier PRO-4X
They are now on their 2nd or 3rd year and they continue to impress me
Hankook is a very impressive brand

Like all manufactures they have top of the line and bottom of the line options
OEM tires on almost all "affordable cars" are absolute junk
The difference between your OEM tires on the Elantra and the top of the line R-S3 performance tires is huge, it's like comparing a Ford F-150 to a Ferrari 458 Italia
I used to run the BFG AllTerrain tires on my trucks, would normally get 35k miles out of them
The OEM BFGs that came on the Frontier were destroyed before 20k miles

*ahem* Back on topic...
Whatever you do, I'd stay away from Bridgestone anything. Mark and I both had spectacular failures on ours within weeks of each other.

I don't really know yet. I want a tire that is good on the street but can also handle a track day or two. It has to be able to run in wet weather as well. I kind of like the direzza ZII but might wait to see what the new R11A's are going to be like. I have alot of tread left on the first set of tires I have on it now but they are all season.

Hankook R-S3 for me, I love them, and I'm coming from 20-years of driving and teaching at high performance driving schools
Every tire has some degree of tradeoff, but for me, price, longevity, looks, grip, predictability, turn-in response, braking effectiveness, all together the R-S3 is my winner
And the only other thing I'll add, if you do a lot of reading you will hear lots of people claim the R-S3 has a very soft sidewall, my response to that is it's a shame they do not have them properly inflated
The R-S3 just like the older R-S2 model takes more air than what might be perceived as normal, and once they are properly inflated, soft sidewall is something that would never come out of my mouth
Good luck with your decision, and if you do decide to go R-S3, order them before you need them, otherwise you may find they are not in stock, and then you will be forced to go to a different tire

The jury is still out, not sure what I will buy. I believe OEM size for ap2v3 17" inch rims are 215x45x17 front and 245x40x17 rear. I have read that people run with 225x40x17 front and 255x40x17 rear, Is there any advantage to this and do these sizes rub?
