Default Wind storm

Power went out about 12:30pm yesterday and I don't expect it to be fixed any time soon. (140K w/o power county wide.) We lost three 25-35' pine trees, but no damage to the house. I passed several closed gas stations this morning, but finally found one and filled three 5-gallon cans for the generator. That should keep us warm for a couple of nights. (Lows in the single digits for the next few days.)

Work has power.

Saw Harry's update last night about losing power too.

Hang in there guys and hoping they restore power soon to all of you. It's gotta be a priority and I'm sure crews are already in action

Had to go out and secure some of the flashing on the front of the house that came loose in the wind. Wind, freezing cold, snow & ice made for not the most ideal weather to be up on a ladder. All fixed now.

+1 asks why we don't have a generator. I say I asked a couple of times about getting one but she said we don't lose power that much.
Today she's says "you get one right away"!! Found one at BJ's in Geneva. Drive to Geneva and get it. $750, but a decent one but at full price. Driving home she calls and asks if I went to Geneva Switzerland to get it as I am taking to long. Some assembly required. Doing the last step of adding oil and poof the power comes on.
Oh well, at least I have a new toy with a motor!

^^^& hopefully you'll never need it. After the big ice storm of '98 here, where we lost power for nearly 2 weeks, my neighbor bought a generator......he has yet to use it in 19 years! I don't have one either.

Generator useless unless you can hook it up. Completely illegal. Bush fix. Got me through a many storms.

Get heavy extension cord. Cut off female receptacle. Splice on a second male receptacle so you have cord with two male ends. Turn off mail breaker to the house. Make sure you are disconnected from main power grid!. Start generator. Plug in cord to generator and then plug into an outlet in the house. Will power that circuit, so find the circuit with the water pump and oil burner. I've never tried with a 220. Disconnect everything before your flip the main circuit back on or you will electrocute a linesman.

I finally got a proper installation for my house with cut off switches and the like. But I still keep my two mail plug wire for the neighbors.
