It's news to me that there's a problem. I've had this MBP - on which I'm typing this message - for 5 years and never had any problem. It's mostly switched on 24/7 albeit sometimes in sleep mode.

And of course I don't suffer from viruses like I used to with my old PC. To me this has both function and form.

If it never switches to discrete graphics and it's pre late 2009/2010 you might not have one of the bad batches. Seems to primarily affect the stuff with the ATI graphics cards in them. Their later stuff just isn't built to the same quality as their old stuff.

I do get a reputation at work for being a Mac hater and it's not true - when Apple controlled their own hardware and it was all designed, built and tested by them it was reliable and performed well. As soon as they got into bed with OEMS and Intel things went downhill.

And as for using Mac as a corporate machine, where the hell is the onsite warranty - when your tech is in the work place ( and fails ) it's not reasonable to expect people to mooch down 'The Store' to get it fixed.

Pole will be under his A96 fitting a some autojumble clutch he got hold of for 10p.
