Thanks for all the suggestions. I will probably look at running the cables in the wall. Keeps it nice and tidy.
Will look into this "electrician fishing rod"

Wires can actually look pretty cool if consideration is given to the cables and connectors employed, and how it is run.

Whilst my cables were installed prior to the dot-and-dab, I would've have been happy with more of them exposed and actually wanted to use suspended galvanised cable trays as a feature. Alas I was overruled and this is all I was allowed show...

Run cables like this in the small gap between grip rods and the skirting board, there is a gap and with a pair of pliers you can pull the carpet up enough to put the wire safely and hidden.
