Default Visiting UK on business

Heading your way next week on business. Landing in Birmingham and heading up to Stoke for a day. Company added a leg to visit a company in London. I decided to do the 3 hour drive to see your great country. Any hints getting from point A to point B? I can’t tell you how excited I am to go to “car country”. My friends son (Colton Herta) raced for Carlin several years. He is now back in the states running IndyLights. He shared with me the UK is awesome!

Thanks in advance,

Utah (aka Bob)

Driving in the UK in normal hours really isn't much fun. Stoke to London would be M6 and M1 which are pretty terrible, and London is mostly a traffic jam.

I'd take the train from which you can enjoy the views of the countryside and it's a lot less painful.

Whereabouts in London do you need to get to?

Birmingham - oh dear

Stoke - oh dear

London - plenty to see but LG is right about making that drive, it will sour your experience

Sadly what they said - that's a commute / slog not a drive. All you'll see is how little space we have for the number of vehicles that need it!

The last proper drive i really enjoyed was 3500 miles in the USA last year - primarily because the amount of traffic on the roads was the polar opposite to most of the UK.

Thank you all for your valuable insight. Got the same feedback from a guy here at work. If I were to take the train where would be the best place to depart from? We have a rental car from National to get from Birmingham Airport to Stoke. Originally that was the only leg on the trip. Then added the London leg. Now leaving from London instead of Birmingham. Destination in London is a company called ISDI Ltd. 11 Leighton Pl., London NW5 2QL, UK.

Really appreciate your advice on how to do this trip

Kentish town / Camden is probably a 10 minute tube ride out of either of the big stations - take your pick!

If you're in Stoke for an evening then https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restau...e_England.html is truly excellent, bring your own alcohol.

If you go here: https://www.thetrainline.com/book/results?origin=c9885c375517d5fffa478af8d692ca4f027 e70fa&destination=b72fd4e818fdc8bffdb51340e7fc1335 63de069d&outwardDate=2018-07-25T12%3A45%3A00&outwardDateType=departAfter&journe ySearchType=single&passengers%5B%5D=1988-07-21&selectedOutward=5EC30B12k7GcKQuY0alTBA%3D%3D%3A E0k4B00%2B2RwDJRnDJ1S%2B5w%3D%3D

You can book tickets. It's an hour and a half from Stoke on Trent to London Euston (versus around 3 hours in a car).

Note that prices vary wildly depending on the time of day (from as little as £10.50 in the middle of the day to £150 plus at peak time).

Hopefully the link works, if not go to www.thetrainline.com and enter in when you want to travel. I'd recommend booking First Class so as to avoid the worst of England.

You go from Stoke on Trent direct to London Euston, and then take the Tube or jump in a cab/Uber to Kentish Town.

Birmingham and Stoke You need to look for a new job - your present employer is clearly trying to get you to quit anyway

Bob, how long are you in London for following your arrival?

Are you flying in to Heathrow then going into London overnight? More details would be helpful.

Got back to my home moments ago. Interesting trip to say the least. Ended up driving up to Stafford on the M6 and overnighted at the Travelodge. Not the best but served its purpose. Headed up to Stoke for meeting and it went well. I have new respect for you who drive on the wrong side of the car on the wrong side of the road. Did well until the end where the road narrowed and some guy was coming down my side. I have to say your peeps tend to be much more organized. Drove back down to London and stayed two nights at the Heathrow Terminal 4 Hilton. Not wanting to test my wrong side driving skills at the advanced level I Ubered out from the hotel to the second supplier.. Trip was well. This trip was to review two start up companies. Based on my report we will investing several million dollars. Two great companies. Met lots of great people, both local and immigrant. You have a great country! The highlight of my trip was seeing a Silverstone S near Heathrow ((terminal 4 area)n my Uber return. It was driven by a silver haired gentleman and a brunette female passenger. Plate ended in 809(908.). Made my trip.

Thanks for posting up. If you ever need help on Holiday to the States don’t hesitate to PM me. I’m sure I’ll be back soon.......
