Default Visiting USA and Japan

Planning a mini trip just over 3 week, going to fly over to USA then from Western USA say San Francisco or california onto Japan.

I don't mind flying internally, but would like to visit 3 areas wondering what are must see places to see in the US, I've been Las Vegas and new York so not bothered about them.

Who is best for cheap internal flights in the US?

Lastly Japan I have a few ideas Ian is helping me, I'll probably got just Tokyo so obviously Honda motel, mugen but not just car stuff.

Cheers

If you have even a little bit of geek in you then you absolutely have to visit the Akihabara district in Tokyo.

How about an around the world ticket , as long as you keep going west, you get internal flights in the deal, so I am told by she who must be obeyed

If you have time do Hwy 1 in a car along the California coast. LA to SF (more or less). Santa Barbara and Big Sur are lovely stopovers.

On the East coast, how about renting a sporty car and going to the dragon?

Here are some ideas for Japan.

I recommend that also, we did it back in 2010 (largely thanks to advice from here) and paid around £1,100 each for tickets from LHR>SFO (surface to LAX), LAX>Tahiti, Tahiti>Sydney (via Auckland), Sydney>Tokyo (again via Auckland), Tokyo>home.

We did a fair bit of travel in both Tahiti and Oz, and took Highway 1 down from San Fran to LA.

I did put a post on here about it not long after, will see if I can find it. Company we used was www.roundtheworldflights.com, they were excellent as we had a tight-ish schedule, a wedding to get to in Tasmania during the trip and also clear ideas about where we wanted to stay and for how long (sorted the hotels ourselves though)

There is something uniquely satisfying about knowing that you have circumnavigated the globe
