Can anyone explain: Platinum vs. Titanium cards?

What is the difference? Is one more desirable than the other?

Just a matter of degree. When credit cards first came out they had the plain card. They went to silver or gold. As this being a case of "one ups manship" the next level was platinum or what ever the next level of perceived metal/gem value is. It will vary by card and what is offered for free. Most cases just read the fine print to see the difference, if any, between levels.

All bs.... marketing i take it :D
no card can phade the AMEX Centeriun(sp?) card.
it is the epitomy of credit cards. You must spend at least 10K a month and pay it in full each month, invitation only!

yea, the Centurion is aka "The Black Card". Minimum annual spending of $100k, if you ask for it you will never get it. As you said, invite only. I think the annual fee is $1000. I read about it in the Wall Street Journal.

The benefit of it is the concierge, mainly. Apparently they'll get you anything you want, when you want it, and deliver it to you *yesterday*.

I forgot what color my CC is, it just works...........sometimes too well. 25K limit.

I believe the Hemp Card is the highest you can get.

So...is this card still made out of plastic? Hmm I wonder if they fabricate it with Ti or CF?

Muz 06-29-2003 11:45 PM

Credit is something you can only afford to have when you don't need it. Amex have offered me every card under the sun but I will stick to my measly 10K limit gold card and my unlimited business card. I simply can't see what benefit I would gain by having a platinum card. It's all designed to appeal to the ego and sense of 'status'.
